newborn prep guide

Thanks so much for allowing us the honor of creating beautiful photos for you.
Our style is photo journalistic, we capture playful images, snuggling, being goofy, and just loving on each other.

All studio sessions are scheduled from 9am until 4pm in the Spring and Summer months, and 9am until 2pm in the fall and winter months for the best light.

All newborn sessions are IMMEDIATE FAMILY ONLY.

A well fed baby is a happy baby! Please feed baby right before our session to ensure a happy, sleepy baby. We will also be more than happy to take as many breaks as needed to help him/her re-fuel.

Please bring baby dressed in a white onesie. Long or short sleeve. This way if baby is sleeping when you arrive, we can get started right away without having to disturb him or her with undressing.

No socks prior to the session so there are no sock lines. Baby will be wearing a diaper the whole session.

Please bring :: a cozy blanket for in-between poses, plenty of milk, we don't care what form that liquid gold comes in.... as long as there is plenty and have a pacifier handy.

We will have a noise soother and many tricks that we use to get the baby sleeping. If the baby just isn't sleepy, then we go to family poses and can finish with posed baby.

Your baby will never be naked during our session, we will wrap your babe to cover the diaper. We have a huge bin of fabrics and wraps that we use and that represent our style.

We are more than happy to use a few of the things you might have been collecting since you found out about the baby, but sometimes those props or clothes just don't work. Newborn outfits rarely fit and hide the babies face and it is harder to pose the baby to show off the back of something or even the front. We can never guarantee that those photos with a special outfit will look like our other work. Basically, you hired us because you like our style, if you change the style, we can't stand behind our work. We are not trying to talk you out of it, we will definitely take those images for you. We just want you to be aware of that from the beginning. Also, the more outfits and props that you have, that will eat up the session time as it will take us sometime to figure out new poses and setups that we like to give you the very best photos that we can achieve.

in-home newborn prep

Lifestyle sessions are for families who want a more relaxed atmosphere while capturing life as it is now and conducted in the comfort of your home. There will be natural and lightly posed interactions between family and simple wraps.

Try to have a few rooms clean and without clutter. The master bedroom, a room with a couch, and baby’s nursery are a good start. For bedroom photographs consider having a white bedspread/blanket. White helps bounce light onto people's faces and keeps your images brighter.

Try not get caught up in making sure baby is sleeping the whole time, alert newborns can be just as sweet!

Baby will likely spend a lot of time in your arms the next couple months and that is our favorite way to photograph them! If baby needs a feed during the shoot, we will keep shooting unless you let us know you would like privacy. It is a good idea to feed baby just before our scheduled time and have the house/rooms nice and warm.

When we first get to your home, we will take a look around to check out all of the rooms we plan on shooting in, as well as if we need to scoot any furniture around. During our session, don't worry about looking at the camera. We will always instruct you when you need to look at us.

We do not bring props to in-home lifestyle sessions other than a white wrap.

Elements of your home will be the background of your photos.

some things for everyone

We are a baby lead, natural light photographers. While we will always have a plan for our session together, we let your newborn take the lead in terms of posing. We will use soft natural light, organic textures, and authentic connections to create soft, real and beautiful images of your little. No bright colors, props, or unnatural baby poses.

STUDIO ANIMAL POLICY

We do not allow dogs into the studio per our landlord’s policy.

Find a color palette that you love and choose outfits that compliment each other without looking too matchy-matchy.

We always suggest that the woman choose an outfit she feels confident and beautiful in. Then plan the color palette and everyone else's outfits from there.

If you have a fun patterned outfit you would like to use, limit it to one person. That way they will pop and still coordinate with everyone else. Multiple patterns can look busy, and this way they won't be competing with one another.

Add dimension and interest by mixing up the texture of the clothing material and accents.

Keep our backdrop in mind when choosing your clothing.

Here is our Pinterest Board that we are always adding to and updating.

after our session

In regards to your photos, as we sort through all of the images from our session, we choose to edit the ones that best represent you. We love to give you the images where there are beautiful expressions, and priceless moments being captured. While we do not edit and/or share every image from our session, we do strive to deliver the best photo(s) of each pose.

We will aim to have your gallery portraits edited and ready within 2 - 3 weeks of our session. You will receive your photos on a personalized, password protected, online gallery. This allows for the quickest delivery of the images, for you to easily view and share your photos.

From there you are welcome to order print products through us, or you can create prints with your own preferred lab. You have full printing rights to these digital images. We suggest a professional lab and not Drug Store quality.
